Welcome to Camp Kingfisher, where kids can grow alongside nature! Our camp offers a wide variety of traditional camp activities such as hiking, canoeing, and swimming in our private pool. Our staff specializes in providing hands-on learning activities that allow campers to embrace the outdoors and garner a deeper appreciation for wildlife. Our live animal encounters, science exploration activities (SEAs), and educational hikes are built around one of seven themes of the camp season. Camp K’s mission is to connect kids with nature. We can’t wait to see you this summer!

OWLETS

Half-day camp for 4-year-olds. Campers must be 4 years old by the first day of camp.

About

This half-day camp experience for 4-year-olds was designed from the ground up to be an introduction to the best nature camp in Atlanta. Campers will experience hikes, games, swimming, live animal encounters, and crafts. For many Owlets, this is their first “big kid” camp experience. Our staff is specially chosen to help this age group to have an amazing time at Camp K.

Typical day

>> The Owlet Day runs from 8:30AM – 12:30PM. The day is split into 4 periods. Owlets will start their day at the pool and will be the only group there at this time. After pool time, the owlets will have a snack break and then enjoy the rest of their day with their counselors and friends exploring the grounds of CNC. The Owlets will end their day with lunch and at 12:30PM we will send them home happy and tired ready for a nap.

>> Owlets do not canoe during their time at camp due to age restrictions at CNC’s ponds.

>> Please send your camper to camp in their swimsuit and a change of clothes.

>> Most Owlet campers will come to camp with a puddle jumper or other flotation device for the pool.

>> Owlet campers need 1 snack and a lunch.

>> Owlets are dropped off and picked up in different locations from our general camp population more information will be sent closer to camp.

>> Due to Camp Kingfisher’s exemption from the state of GA, campers who are 4 years old may only attend camp for 4 hours. All campers must be 4 years old by the first day of their session.

EASTERN SCREECH OWLS

Day camp for rising K & 1st grade. Campers must be 5 by the first day of camp.

>> The ESO day runs from 9AM – 3:30PM.

>> Each day will consist of 6 periods, 2 snacks, and 1 lunch period.

>> ESO campers will have a “break” in the middle of the day called Turtle Time, this typically occurs right after lunch when bellies are full, and campers are ready to recharge for the rest of the day.

>> ESO campers all swim in the shallow end of the pool many ESO campers bring puddle jumpers for the pool (not required)

BARRED OWLS

Day camp for rising 4th and 5th graders.

About

Most Barred Owl (BDO) campers are pros to camp life. Whether they have been at Camp K before or other camps at this age campers know how to make the most of their camp experiences. This full-day program is packed with hikes, pool, live animal encounters, arts and crafts, and canoeing on Heron Pond. Barred Owls also get to participate in archery at Camp K’s archery range.

GREAT HORNED OWLS

Day camp for rising 6th and 7th graders.

About

Great Horned Owl (GHO) campers often get a choice when it comes to their summer plans. And our veteran campers know just how awesome Camp K is! GHO campers fill their days with canoeing on Heron Pond, archery, hikes, science activities, and more. Including the opportunity to participate in a guided river trip down the Chattahoochee River (river trips are only available for campers registered in 2-week sessions).

>> GHO campers who are registered in a 2-week session (A-D) are invited to join for a late-night evening during the second week of their session.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Adventure Camp for rising 8th and 9th graders.

About

The Travel Program is Camp Kingfisher’s high adventure-based camp for teens. Travel Program campers will have fun exploring some of the natural wonders in Georgia and surrounding states. Each day is packed with adventures, fun, and some challenges along the way. While some parts of activities are challenge by choice campers are required to stay with the group at all times.

>> Each day in the Travel Program is different, before the session starts families will receive a detailed schedule of when drop off and pick up is each day.

>> Campers will arrive between 8-9AM & pickup is between 4:30 – 6:30PM. Each day the group will go to a different location and the distant to that days trip will determine the drop-off and pickup time.

>> Trips may include hikes, kayaking, caving, white water rafting, exploring urban forests, and more.

ART IN NATURE

Rising 2nd–5th Graders

About

Art in Nature will allow creative minds to test out different art forms and make the connection between art and the natural world. Campers might get a chance to create their very own dream catchers completely out of found materials, or some quiet time daily for journaling and to create their own camp story using a medium of their own choosing. And our boardwalk is the perfect place for plein air panting!

>> The camper-to-counselor ratio for Barn Owls is 1:9. Groups will have 18 campers with 2 counselors or 9 campers with 1 counselor. On rare occasions, we will increase this ratio to 1:10

GROW CAMP

Rising 4th–7th Graders

About

Did you know the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s Unity Garden donates an average of 3.5 tons of fresh produce to North Fulton Community Charities annually? In GROW camp campers will learn what it takes to keep a garden growing strong. Campers will work directly with CNC’s horticulture staff to assist with planting, weeding, and harvesting in CNC’s Unity Garden.

General Information

CANOEING

About

All campers registered in full day camps will get the opportunity to canoe at least 2 times a week on one of our 3 canoe ponds. Canoe ponds are run by American Canoe Association trained canoe instructors. Our progressive canoe program will build upon their canoeing skills year after year. Camper registered in the half day Owlet program will not canoe due to minimum age restriction for CNC canoe ponds.
General Information

>> Camp Kingfisher runs 3 different ponds for canoeing. The pond that campers canoe on is determined based on the camper age group.

>> All campers and staff wear PFDs while canoeing. Camper PFDs are checked for security before entering a canoe.

>> Canoe staff are trained in canoe instruction and rescue.

>> When the heat index reaches 100 degrees or more the canoe ponds will be closed for the safety of campers and staff. We will do our best to reschedule canceled canoe periods.
Age Group Details

>> Screech Owl & Barn Owl campers will canoe 2x during the week on Kingfisher & Beaver pond. They will canoe with a counselor or one of Camp Kingfishers Leaders in Training (LIT)

>> Barred Owl & Great Horned Owl campers will canoe 3-4x per week. At Heron Pond campers canoe with a peer and focus on learning the ins and outs of steering a canoe

>> Great Horned Owl campers will learn to rescue a flipped canoe and get back in once the canoe has been emptied

>> Great Horned Owls registered in 2-week sessions may add on a river trip to their camp session. River trips will occur during the late night during the second week of the session. Weather and E. coli levels are checked before each trip. High E. coli levels or bad weather may impact trips.

SWIMMING

General Information
>> 2 American Red Cross-trained lifeguards are always on duty when campers are swimming.

>> Campers swim in our Junior Olympic-sized pool which ranges from 3.5 ft. – 12 ft.

>> Counselors interact and play with campers during swim time.

>> Deep end test- to swim in the deep end campers must pass a swim check.
- During the swim test campers will be asked to tread water for 60 seconds and swim the length of the shallow end of the pool twice without touching the pool floor.
- The deep-end test is available on Monday & Wednesday.
- Campers must pass 1x per camp season.
>> Owlets and Screech owls are not permitted to take the deep-end test. They will swim in the shallow end of the pool only (3.5-5 feet).

>> Campers who do not wish to swim may participate in self-directed activities within the pool deck area.

Wait List

If a camp session is full, the options are to choose another available session and/or add yourself to the wait list. Log into your account and select the desired session. Add the camper to the wait list and an email will be sent when a space becomes available. Secure the spot within 48 hours to guarantee camper placement in session.

Membership Levels & Rates

Camp families that are members of CNC at the family level or higher are eligible to receive a discounted member price on camp sessions.

Note: At the time of registration families must have an active CNC membership at the Family Level or higher to receive any discounts on camp rates.

Camp hours: 9AM – 3:30PM

Drop off 8-9AM and Pick up 3:45-4:45PM

After Care: available until 5:45

After Care

Camp Kingfisher offers aftercare for families who need a later pick-up time. Family’s may add aftercare to their campers’ session for $100 per week. Don’t need the whole week no worries you may also choose aftercare ala cart style for $25 a day. Aftercare is not available for campers in the Owlet or Travel Program.

Immunizations

Camp Kingfisher requires current immunization records (Certificate of Immunization, form 3231) or exemption (medical or personal) documentation for all campers.

Please submit this information with your child’s Camper Information Form at least two weeks before your first session. Failure to provide this documentation will result in exclusion from camp activities. Please contact the office at 770-992-2055 x222, if you have any questions.

Cancellation/Refunds/Changes Policy

All cancellation requests must be emailed to s.martin@chattnaturecenter.org at least 10 business days before start date. See complete cancellation policy below.

Cancellation Policy

camp Scholarships

Partial scholarships are available for children attending Camp Kingfisher at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and the camper’s potential for growth and development through a Camp Kingfisher Summer Camp experience. When awarded scholarships, the parent/guardian must pay remainder of camp tuition. On occasion, we award complete scholarships in cases of extreme hardship. Please note that scholarship funds are limited.
